A strong element of Home Suite Hope (HSH) is the individual opportunities offered to residents that increase the options available to them to achieve individual potential. Residents work one-to-one with a facilitator who acts as a life skills coach as residents develop and work toward their goals. Links to specific work skills development, job training, financial management, sports and recreation, and life skills are a sample of services offered to HSH residents.

In addition, volunteers and community members may act as informal mentors, if a resident wishes to develop this type of relationship.  Assistance with skills development includes:

  • Life skills (budgeting, cleaning, cooking)
  • Assistance to set up banks accounts, direct rent payment
  • Referrals to other support agencies
  • Crisis intervention
  • Conflict resolution
  • Informal counseling
  • Fitness opportunities, such as membership at the local Y
  • Help to connect with market housing when residents are ready to move on

Services available at the house include

  • Computers with Internet Access
  • Photocopying
  • Scanning
  • Faxing
  • Telephone Access

When appropriate, HSH connects people with employment related opportunities, either through the local Employment Resouce Centres or through private connections, and encourages residents to be self-reliant by providing information services and products for use as requested, such as:

  • Computer Workshops
  • Resume Critiquing
  • Video Tape Interviews
  • Small Business Information
  • Networking

Computer Software Available:
