Home Suite Hope fights homelessness by providing subsidized housing to an ever increasing homeless population in the Halton Region. Low income, single parent families need your support. Your donations make an enormous difference and transforms lives.

On June 23, Home Suite Hope (HSH) together with sponsors Genworth Canada, Oakville Infiniti, Media Rez Studios and partners were thrilled to kick off the innovative Sleep in Your Car for Hope event at a special media launch at the Oakville YMCA – marking the official start of the three-month campaign to raise awareness for single-parent families facing homelessness.siyc kickoff

The event reinforced the purpose and the goal of Sleep in Your Car for Hope – to rally friends, family and neighbours to spend one night in their vehicles, fundraising $1,000 or more, aiming to have 100 cars register and raise over $100,000 in support of local families who are homeless. $1,000 can help house a family of four for two whole months.

The enthusiastic pit crew included a gang of supporters from title sponsor Genworth Canada decked out in their finest sleepwear, who are reportedly chartering a bus for the September event.

Debbie McPherson, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Genworth Canada and Home Suite Hope’s new board Chair, expressed her company’s commitment for the ongoing work of Home Suite Hope as title sponsor of the Sleep in Your Car event.

“Our work with Home Suite Hope has really opened our eyes to the importance of the community coming together to support people in need,” she said. “Genworth Canada wants to do our part in raising awareness and supporting the great work that HSH does – providing educational programs and services to help end the cycle of poverty. We’ve gotten to know some of the women who have gone through these programs. To watch them grow, develop and become more confident has really been inspiring.

“The Sleep in a Car event is a real way of demonstrating what some families experience as their reality every night. We are pleased to announce that the team at Genworth Canada is nearing its fundraising goal of $5,000 for #1Night4Hope and we are increasing it. We are throwing down the gauntlet for corporate sponsors and are encouraging staff, family and friends to get involved in this important cause in any way they can.”

Adam Robinson, General Manager, Oakville Infiniti, jumped at the opportunity to get involved. “Oakville Infiniti is a proud partner of Home Suite Hope,” he said “The people of Oakville have a rich history of giving back, and at Oakville Infiniti we’re proud to continue that tradition by supporting Sleep in Your Car. It is my hope that this event will bring awareness, and resources, to a very real issue in our community. We are excited to take part!”

Proceeds raised will go towards housing, education, support, and training for the community’s most vulnerable families. Register today!

A group of pajama-clad supporters from Genworth Canada were asked why they are going to sleep in their car on September 23. This is what they had to say:

Anne-Marie Koebel, Underwriter
“It’s a really different way to promote a cause – inclusive of everyone. If it was a 5k run, I wouldn’t do it, but I can sleep in my car, and make an important contribution to this initiative.”

Robin Collins, Real Estate Analyst
“It’s awesome, being able to donate back to your community – give people somewhere to sleep, something to eat. The thought of people sleeping in their cars is heart-breaking.”

Maria Procaccini, Vendor Manager Analyst
“It’s a unique experience just to get a glimpse of what it’s like for people less fortunate and to step outside of your comfort zone.”

Anita Booth, Director, Marketing and Community Relations
“At Genworth, we are about giving back to the community. Volunteerism is a big part of what we do. June is a special month for us, right across Canada, we join our colleagues around the world to take part in a wide range of planned volunteer service activities. Home Suite Hope is a charity that is very important to us because there many people in our own community who need our support. We are excited to participate in Sleep in Your Car for Hope – it’s a unique and innovative event that will bring awareness to homelessness here in Oakville and the Halton region. We hope the community will get involved with this event on September 23, 2017.”
