PD Day focus on employment

Recently Home Suite Hope (HSH) hosted a two-part Professtional Development (PD) Day Workshop - one in the boardroom of HSH for new graduates (above) and the other at The Hub in Burlington Centre Mall led by HSH Industry Council members Hugo Breton and Jennifer McCleod (below).

Hugo led our annual Resume Building and Elevator Pitch Workshop, where participants crafted their Elevator Pitch and learned strategies to improve their resumes.

Jennifer then shared a motivating speech with participants on the current job market, tips to prepare for employment and confidence-building skills for job interviews.

On the same day, newly graduated/graduating participants took part in an Employment Phase Workshop at the HSH offices where they learned about the next phase in their journey with HSH, the employment phase! This is when participants are intensely focused on securing employment with their newly-acquired credentials and increasing their employability.

Participants also presented elevator pitches to Industry Council members, who graciously shared their time to attend and provide feedback providing valuable insights to participants as they search for employment in their fields of study.

HSH Industry Council

Home Suite Hope’s Industry Council plays a critical role in the development and success of the Homeward Bound Halton program. This group of senior executives with decision-making authority from a variety of fields support the professional advancement of participants in the program.

The Industry Council is made up of volunteers who are representatives from private sector businesses, non-profit and public sector employers, community champions with influence in the local community and representatives from employment services at the local college, municipality or community services.
