• Ontario’s nonprofit sector is diverse – from arts and culture, housing, sports and recreation, faith, child development, community health care, the environment, and more.
• Nonprofits are leading advocacy and change for a better, greener, more equitable economy and inclusive society.
In Halton we have a nonprofit coalition - ImpactHaltonCoaltion. There are close to 1,000 nonprofits in Halton, supporting community health, creating opportunities through sport, recreation and culture, protecting our environment, welcoming newcomers, and supporting the well-being of residents from all walks of life.
HSH works with single parents and their families. It serves single parents who are homeless, facing homelessness or who are precariously housed. HSH programming is designed to move those single parents from poverty to stability with the goal that they are able to maintain market rent upon exiting programming.
We work from a housing first principle and providing rent subsidy and wrap around support.
That support includes counselling, life skills, academic upgrading, a bursary to a post-secondary diploma program and employment search support.
HSH offers a variety of programs that range from one year to the four-year Homeward Bound Halton program. These programs enable HSH to meet clients where they have the need... whether it's rebuilding after family crisis, regaining stability and employment or developing a new skill upon which future stability can be based.
Working with Halton Women's Place, HSH's new Haven to Home program assists women and children facing domestic violence get on their feet. Pathways Forward helps single working parents stabilize.
HSH relies solely on donations, fundraising and grants and in recent years housing affordability issues have significantly impacted its work.
Still, HSH has consistently achieved high success in stabilizing single parents - and that not only helps our community today but lays the foundation for families to break the cycle of generational poverty.
Nonprofits are essential community infrastructure in Halton.
